League Information
Check out the Southland Swim Association website SSA Website In addition to valuable information about our swim league, directions to each pool are available, meet results and a list of the top twenty swimmers by stroke and age groups will be updated weekly.
What is a Recreational League vs. a Competitive League?
Deer Creek is a member of an eight-team swim league called Southland Swim Association whose focus is to provide a recreational swimming opportunity for all its members. We are not a competitive swimming league where the best swimmers in each stroke are guaranteed a spot in that stroke for each meet. Our goal is to encourage our kids to be active, to be positive members of a team and to improve their skills. Therefore, we ask that swimmers and parents alike foster the goal of creating a community team that supports one another through great sportsmanship.
Please refer to the Code of Conduct SSA Code of Conduct
- There shall be no physical violence of any kind.
- Deer Creek pool rules shall be followed at all times.
- There will be no tolerance for lack of respect toward coaches or other
swimmers.
Swimmers will be given one verbal warning if their behavior is not appropriate. Upon the second warning, the swimmer will be sent home and the coach will call their parents to explain what happened. If inappropriate behavior becomes habitual, swimmers will lose the opportunity to compete in meets until the behavior stops.
Swimmers – always remember you have an audience. Whether you are six or sixteen, there is someone watching you and looking up to you. Be worthy of their faith by respecting and being kind to one another.
Rainouts
If swim team practice is cancelled due to severe weather, we will do our best to send an email by 7:15 am. If the weather is questionable, check the website before heading to the pool. If nothing is posted, there WILL be practice.
If a meet is cancelled due to severe weather, we will do our best to make that call and email the team/post on the website by 5pm on the night of the meet. Please check your email any time there could be a weather issue.
Swim Meets
All meets start at 5:30 and are scheduled on Wednesdays.
Warm-up times will be noted in the weekly website updates as they are different for home and away meets. The home team starts warm ups first followed by the visiting team.
If lightning is present, meets will be delayed 30 minutes. If lightning persists, the meet will be delayed until the following night – always the Thursday immediately following the regularly scheduled Wednesday.
If we are delayed until Thursday and the weather is still bad, the meet most likely will be cancelled.
